Ondo senator weeps for endorsing under age girl marriage

The member representing Ondo Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator Ayo Akinyelure, wept before members of his constituency in Akure on Monday as he apologised to them that he voted in error to support the senate resolution backing marriage of underage girls.
Akinyelure was summoned by his constituents to explain his role in the controversial passage of a resolution to retain the provision of Section 29 (4) (b) of the 1999 Constitution, which states that a married underage girl is deemed to be an adult.

Patience Jonathan who spoke at the Presidential Villa during a courtesy visit to the Presidential Villa by 16 bishops from the South-South geopolitical zone said Gov. Amaechi is her son and he shouldn't let outsiders use him against his own blood.

Globacom has launched a innovative product tagged Phonelord which rewards its subscribers for housing Glo SIMs in their phones.
The company said from now on it would pay its subscribers rents for using their phones to provide shelter for their Glo SIMs just like tenants pay rents to landlords.

Glee actor, Cory Monteith died of "a mixed drug toxicity"
Cory Monteith died of "a mixed drug toxicity, involving heroin and alcohol," the British Columbia Coroners Service announced late Tuesday.
Earlier in the day, the coroner's office had revealed that the initial autopsy of the 31-year-old actor was inconclusive, and had ordered toxicology tests to pinpoint the actor's cause of death. Monteith's body was discovered in his room at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel in Vancouver on Saturday (July 13) after he missed his checkout time.
In their announcement of Monteith's cause of death, the Coroners Service added that their investigation into the case was continuing, but added that "there is no evidence to suggest Mr. Monteith's death was anything other than a most-tragic accident."

I would say it is a decision that is subjective. I think it’s about appreciating a woman who is probably well educated and beautiful at the same time. To an extent I happen to have both qualities and someone has to be given the title. I don’t think it’s true, I mean so many women are beautiful, the most beautiful are probably in some isolated places that no one has discovered so it’s kind of a tall task. But I am humbled and grateful to be considered but I don’t think it’s true.

The Nigerian Army has confirmed claims made by Major Hamza Al-Mustapha that he is still personnel of the Nigerian Army at a briefing by the joint security information committee, the Director of Army Public relations who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Colonel Joe Agim, said that Major Al-Mustapha, the Chief Security Officer to late General Sani Abacha, is still enlisted in the Nigerian Army. “With regards to Mustapha’s release, well, I want to confirm that he is still in the army” he stated. “The case is going to be handled by the army administratively in line with the harmonised terms and conditions of service.’’ He goes on to add that his case will be handled administratively by the Army in line with the harmonized terms of service. Major Hamza al-Mustapha and Lateef Shofolahan were on Friday discharged and acquitted in the case of the assassination of Alhaja Kudirat Abiola, which last 14 years. The former CSO admitted to journalists that he was still in Army on Sunday during his reception by the Kano state government, a status he claimed the Appeal Court Judges also confirmed in their ruling.

Woman Roasts 7-Year-Old Step-son’s Palm.
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a woman, Mrs Aminot Otun, for roasting the right hand of her seven-year-old step-son, Awwal Otun, last Thursday.
Awwal’s hand was allegedly roasted for adding drops of liquid disinfectant to his bath water.
According to Ngozi Ekwerike-Okoro, President, Child to Child Network, a Non-Governmental Organisation, NGO, a distressed call from one of Otun’s neighbours at 59, Suenu Street, Surulere, Lagos saved Awwal’s life.
